Cusseta-Chattahoochee Animal Control FAQ:
Who do I call with an animal complaint?
If you have a problem with a dog or cat, you should call Cusseta-Chattahoochee Animal Control. The Cusseta-Chattahoochee County Animal Control Ordinance #2004-1, covers dogs and cats. Complaints and calls for wildlife should be referred to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources Game Management at (800) 241-4113. Large animal problems (cows, horses, etc.) can be addressed by contacting the Chattahoochee County Sheriffs Department at (706) 989-3644.

How do I report a complaint?
If you are experiencing a problem with a dog or cat, you should dial (706) 989-3422. Personnel at the Public Works Center will answer your call. The dispatcher will obtain information from you to complete the Animal Control Service Calls Form. When this form is completed, it is forwarded to the animal control officer, unless it is one of the top three priorities mentioned below.

What are the hours of operations?
The Cusseta-Chattahoochee County Animal Control hours are Monday through Friday, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. There is an animal control officer available on-call for after hour’s emergencies only. After hours on-call personnel only respond to animal bites cases, injured animals and animal mistreatment in progress.

How are calls prioritized?
Calls are prioritized in the following order:

  1. Animal bite cases
  2. Injured animals
  3. Animal mistreatment in progress
  4. All other calls are ranked on a first call basis.

What happens to the animal after it is picked up?
After the animals are picked up, they are transported to the Cusseta-Chattahoochee County Animal Facility (this is not an Animal Shelter). The animals are housed and cared for at least five days, unless claimed by the owner. Any animal that has bitten a human or another animal will be quarantined for at least (10) days. Please refer to Ordinance 2004-1 for more information.

How do I find out what animals are currently impounded?
Phone (706) 989-3422

If Animal Control picks up my animal, how do I get my animal back?
If your animal is missing or you believe Animal Control picked up the animal, call (706) 989-3422. The dispatcher will take your number and an animal control officer will call you back. If your animal has been picked up, the animal control officer will arrange to return your animal to you. If your animal was in violation of the Cusseta-Chattahoochee County Animal Control Ordinance, you may be cited for the violation. Animal control officers can issue a warning or citation for violation of the Cusseta-Chattahoochee County Animal Control Ordinance.

What if the animal is coming on my property but when you come out the animal is not there?
We have animal traps that can be assigned to you to capture the animal when it is on your property. The traps are live traps and we ask that you contact us if an animal is captured in the trap. No one should try to remove an animal from one of the assigned traps, unless it is one of the animal control officers.
