| Vehicle
registration takes places at the Court House. At
the present time, the only service provided by
this office is vehicle registration. Because of
Budget constrains, all other services related to
the Division of Motor Vehicles are provided in
Columbus. New Georgia residents must apply for
a Georgia driver’s license within 30 days. All
other licenses will be surrendered prior to
issuance of a Georgia License. Persons 18 or
over who surrender an out of state license will
be required to successfully pass an eye
examination.
If you surrender an expired out of state
license, or if you are under the age of 18, you
must pass an eye examination, road rules test,
road signs test and a driving test.
Social Security Number Requirements:
Beginning January 1, 2003, no person may be
issued a Georgia driver’s license or
identification card without providing a social
security number at the time of issuance. It is
not necessary to have a social security card;
however, penalties will occur if an incorrect
social security number is entered.
For those in the country legally but without
a social security number, you need to obtain a
number from a local Social Security
Administration office before visiting a DMV'S
customer service for a driver’s license. The SSA
will begin issuing these forms on Jun 16th.
After obtaining the number, the individual may
bring it to any Customer Service Center on or
after July 1st and begin driver’s application
process. The individual must have the necessary
documentation including a valid I-94 permit,
proof of Georgia residency and must surrender a
foreign driver’s license.
